Ok so to try out the new paint system why not doing a mini repaint group build of Raiben ships : The Alouette and the Tsunami.  afro

Lets do a group repaint to test the new sytem O76G5E3

Now the idea is to get feedback on the general system, see what can be improved, and also talk about the colors. Like are they too saturated, what other color would you like to see, do we add more neutral (gray like) color, and so on. I will be adding custom defined color at the level of the ship but still I want the player to have a nice basic set of color to start with. Right now I can have 64 differents colors, but I could bump that up if necessary.

just as an idea it would be nice if the paint faded over time so ships could actually look more worn overtime would also mean that people would have to maintain their ships so repainting their ships when it starts to fade away

Yep remi you are having a lot of good ideas, in fact I planed to do that from quite some time now, I am just waiting to have more gameplay element to do it.
But basically I wanted to wear paint but also show off some rust/dirt depending on ship location, for example :
Normal rust when travelling in atmosphere, accumulating faster in toxic/heavy atmosphere planet.
Ice on cold planet or when travelling through icy rings
Gaz color when travelling through nebula
Sand accumulating on sandy planet
Burn effect on the front of the ship when doing an old school high speed atmospheric re-entry

might be an idea to have random events like sand clogging an engine so you lose power or ice freezing up rotors and doors so parts of your ship don't work properly a lot of games just completely ignore environmental effects which sucks

Environmental effects would definitely emphasize exploration over stuff like combat or resource gathering. I like the idea, but I don't want it to be absolutely random. The way I envision it is there will be systems, planetary orbits, or sectors that have a tendency to cause one of the environmental effects based on what is in their system. Dying stars could cause electrical outages from surges of the star. Flying far away from the center of the system could induce ice. Flying too close to hot planets could cause your hull to overheat and be destroyed without proper shielding. Basically, I want to be able to prepare for these hazards and brace myself when I see them coming. If you don't have a warning system for these events then they might end up being an annoyance rather than a feature.

It will also be useful when I have planetary tech to add rust, sand ect.
