Stars : Dev Progress

So currently this is the stars we have in Skywanderers:

Time is accelerated but I wanted to have an animated stars that feel alive for the player.


Each star have a specific radius and temperature.
The color is deduced from the temperature from Plank black body law :

Blue is hot


Red is cold


I will do another post on how stars are spawned inside the galaxy.

Next steps :

  • Optimize shader performance
  • Warp protuberance
  • Add huge protuberance
  • Make flaring more random in time
  • Add more random factors to bring more visual diversity
  • Create binary / multiple stars system
  • Better integration with light inside the scene
  • Add more stars type : Cepheid, neutron stars, pulsars, white dwarfs, black hole and more
  • Integration with gameplay : Deal heat/fire damage if ship gets too close, destroy ship inside protuberance.


Dont hesitate to give idea on what you want with stars in particular !

be nice if the stars could also go supernova if damaged or if a large enough entity collided with them evacuating an entire system because everything's going to blow up would be fun Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation
