So, this started as one idea, but grew into a few thoughts for various functional blocks. I do see potential issues for soem of these but here goes:

Wireless I/O block
What if we had a wireless transmitter and receiver? that way you could remotely operate something on another ship or station. I had an issue when i made a ship in such a way that if i docked to a station, in order to walk between them, i would need a catwalk extended. How could i do this without leaving the ship first? So i figured the transmitter block could be a similar form factor to the control yoke, 2x2x1 bricks, with the back end having one input and one "data link", and the receiver would be the same, except it would have one output and one data link. when you right click on either block, you can select a frequency. when both blocks are on the same frequency, the transmitter would send any input to the receiver to relay on to whatever its connected to. the "data link" would just be for connection monitors to gravity units or docking blocks, etc, anything that can be monitored via screen, could be linked to a screen wirelessly through the wireless blocks. This, of course could have limited range.

I wont pretend to know whether this is an easy idea or not, but i think it would be a nice feature, that once multiplayer is implemented, it would give the other players on your ship something to do. The "Comms" officer could handle wireless transmission. Of course, that brings to mind other ideas...

Text relay
Ok, I'm sure there is a plan for some kind of in-game chat, but what if you worked it into the games mechanics? I'm not suggesting that you create limitations for factions, as people will just work around that with TS, mumble, etc. What i am recommending is for communicating with strangers on the server. If you had a communications console, it could work similarly to a wireless block, but it could transmit messages over the previously mentioned frequencies? you would have in-game chat, but what if that didn't reach farther than a few kilometers? to send a message to someone across the system, you would need the communications block. You could boost this range by linking it to an antenna block, which could be how you boost the range of the wireless I/O block as well?

Anyway, i'm just spitting out idea here in case it stirs up some other, more well thought-out ideas:P

Opps, i almost forgot...
LADAR/Detection
I would assume there would be a sensor system for detecting other ships or scanning a star system? maybe a block that is a sensor console, and having multiple sensors, one that detects and tracks other ships, and one array that sweeps the local system to detect astronomical objects and map the solar system? Maybe even a third system where you have to target a specific star, and it scans that target system? Like a low-res long-range scan? This would only work if we didn't have every system mapped out for us. This would be even cooler if there was a tangible way to store and transfer this kind of information, digital starmaps could be a cool commodity.

But anyway, It would be cool if the sensors could be augmented with additional antennas or blocks of some kind, that way a ship can be tailor-made for exploration, detection, survey etc. I think this works for other blocks too, component blocks like the large beam laser is something that makes ship-building a science as well as an art.

??? The logic system is already wireless you can connect logic on one ship to another one never tried it with a station though its most likelly possible

Like the sensor/scanner idea though

No, logic connections have to be on the same ship, which is a reasonable limitation. And I'm not talking about changing that. This would allow someone to establish a connection remotely. You could disconnect from one station, and connect to another while still being km's away, not having to step out and reconnect your logic blocks.

This has several use cases, but let say you could connect logic to other ships, regardless of range, without a wireless block: if you had built five different stations around the galaxy, if they all had a hangar door to open, you would have to have five different buttons, one for each station. and that's just if they each only had one hangar. and then what would happen if you or someone hit the wrong button? with wireless blocks you could just build them all to have they hangar control connected to a wireless block set to a specific frequency. when you enter range you just turn on the radio, and hit the one "open hangar" button.

So I really like this idea (remote controlling), I wanted to do something like this, I need to think a bit more about it so your helping me a lot.

So for the remote message I wanted to do a block that allow you to open channel basically, with a text written by the player, and potentially receive value back and feed that value in your system.

Now so I can a design a robust system, could you think of any idea you will like to use in it ?
For example on my side
* Docking request ! I just love to have to do a docking request on Elite, add so much to immersion
* Control drone or fleet by sending them order (could be with another system I will have to decide)

Also for scanning yes it will actually be a huge part of the exploration side : scanning for ressources, threat, distress beacon ect. So yes there will be a wide range of scanning device, if you want to do a ship efficient at it will require some power that cannot be used on different system.

I also like the text message very much, gave me a lot idea with holographic message, your are our only hope haha. I will think about it also, as I will need a beacon - distress signal mecanism for the exploration part.

Thanks a lot for that very solid contribution !

I'm glad that brainstorming helps, its about all i can do really.
After reading your post, I had one more thought for remote control. I imagine that if you connected a control yoke to a wireless block, and the receiving block had a ship core connected to it, you could then remote-control that core. This could allow for drone-ships that had multiple fighters controlled via consoles on the bridge. it would also allow one block to serve many functions.

That's a sweet idea drones would be sick it would also work wonders for automating systems

the text relays could be integrated with the wireless IO block as well.

have the IO block transfer a couple of logic channels and have the text channel be one possibility for that.
